The signals

Instagram

Local businesses announce openings, hires and moves on Instagram; Romeo reads them without an account and links them to the public register.

In short

  • Many small local businesses announce their moments on Instagram, not LinkedIn: a new branch, a hire, a move.
  • Romeo finds those posts through a web search of public posts. It never logs in to Instagram.
  • A model reads the caption and names the business; the public company register confirms it sits in the targeted sector.
  • The contact is the director listed in the register, not an Instagram account.
  • First run: 55 posts read, 10 businesses kept.

An independent funeral home opening a second branch, a plumber hiring, a renovation company moving: these moments exist, but they almost never go through LinkedIn. They go through Instagram, with a photo of the new shop front and three lines of caption. Romeo reads them for you.

Why listen to Instagram?

LinkedIn is full of managers and directors who post. Many small local businesses are not there, or say nothing there. Their shop window is Instagram. When they grow, they announce it there, the way a firm would on LinkedIn.

For a target of local trades, Instagram therefore complements the other sources: job offers and legal announcements say a company is moving, an Instagram post says it in the company's own words, often earlier.

How does Romeo find these posts?

A web search

Queries on public posts, for example "new branch" and "funeral home", over the past month.

The public post

Romeo reads the public page: author, date, caption. No account, no login.

The public register

The company name is confirmed in the register, within the targeted sector's activity code.

The director

The person to contact is the director listed in the register.

How do you avoid the wrong company?

The company name comes from a caption written by a stranger, not from a database. A model reads it and proposes a name; Romeo does not take its word for it. Every match found in the register must carry an activity code of the targeted sector. A funeral home must land in funeral services, a plumber in building work. Otherwise the post is dropped.

Example

A post says "our new branch opens on Monday". The model names the business, the register finds it with the funeral services code in the right town: it is kept. A namesake in another sector would not have been.

Which moments does Romeo spot on Instagram?

What is postedWhat it suggests
New branch, new premisesThe business is growing and equipping itself
"We're hiring"More work, a team getting organised
Move, renovationSupplier choices to make again
Takeover of the businessA new director reviewing everything

Ads, promotions and temp agency posts are dropped: they say nothing about a moment in the company's life.

How many posts lead to a contact?

On the first run, Romeo read 55 posts and kept 10 businesses as genuine moments for the target. The rest were ads, another region or another trade. That sorting is the work: without it, a list of Instagram posts is useless.

Frequently asked questions

Does Romeo log in to Instagram?

No. It starts from public posts found by a web search and reads the post's public page. No Instagram account is used.

Which sectors is Instagram useful for?

Local, visual trades: funeral homes, building trades, repair services, sometimes agencies. For accountants or lawyers, Instagram is mostly advertising and yields few genuine moments.

How does Romeo avoid picking the wrong company?

The name comes from a caption the business wrote itself. So Romeo requires the company found in the register to carry an activity code of the targeted sector, or it drops it.

Who gets contacted?

The company's director, as listed in the public register, and only once a person has approved each message.
